Working Group renamed

In the first meeting of the year, the Working group Hybrid devices of Deutsche TV-Plattform was renamed in Working group Smart TV. The unanimous decision in mid january 2012 was preceded by several rounds of debates, which had discussed in detail the pros and cons.

In the foreground stands the desire to promote the trend of connecting TV programs and Web services in CE devices, especially TV flat screens, in many different forms. Various terms such as the standard HbbTV, the notion Hybrid-TV or manufacturer-specific wording run the risk, that consumers will be confused. Not unimportant is the agreement of several CE-manufacturers, to name this class of devices in the future uniformly as a Smart TV. Almost all the CE manufacturers are striving since IFA 2011, to deliver their smart devices for the German market in such a way, that in addition to its own services and offerings from other vendors, especially the TV channels, these smart TV-devices may also function according the standard HbbTV.

"Beside the simple and intuitive use of interactive television a homogenius marketing with clear wording is crucial for acceptance and success of Smart-TV," said Jürgen Sewczyk, Member of the Management Board of Deutsche TV-Platform and head of the relevant working group. He announced, for the Platform that it would continue its educational work via publications and events, and also further support the similar PR efforts of all players in 2012.
