Broadcast meets IP: How TV distribution is reinventing itself.
At the FRK Broadband Congress in Leipzig, DTVP board member Frank Heineberg (RTL Deutschland) presented the new DVB-I distribution standard. In his presentation, he explained the role of the Deutsche TV-Plattform in the introduction of DVB-I to the German market and showed what the standard means for cable network operators.
DVB-I is hybrid and open: The standard combines cable, satellite, and terrestrial broadcasting with TV offerings delivered over the internet. The integration of HbbTV adds interactive features. For cable network operators, the audience of the FRK Congress, this opens up new opportunities to bring together linear and IP-based offerings in a unified user experience.
The introduction of DVB-I in Germany is attracting significant international attention and is scheduled to take place later this year. The Deutsche TV-Plattform is closely supporting the process, including in the DVB-I Task Force, which developed the Implementation Profile as part of the DVB-I Book Germany.

DVB-I will change TV distribution in Germany, and the Deutsche TV-Plattform is actively helping to shape its introduction. In the DVB-I Task Force, members are developing the Implementation Profile as part of the DVB-I Book Germany, the technical basis for a unified standard in the German market. The introduction is scheduled to take place later this year.
