Frankfurt am Main, February 12, 2025
Sales increase in the TV market: According to the latest CE Industry Compass 2024 by ZVEI and the German TV Platform in cooperation with GfK, sales of TV displays rose by 2.6 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 4.6 million units (2023: nearly 4.5 million). The business was particularly boosted in the second quarter by the European Football Championship and in the fourth quarter by replacement purchases due to the termination of ARD’s SD distribution at the beginning of January 2025.
OLED TVs saw a disproportionate increase of 6.4 percent in 2024 (735,000 units). The trend towards larger screen sizes continued: In the group of devices with a screen size of 51 to 65 inches, sales increased by 8.1 percent (1.9 million units), while very large TVs over 65 inches even recorded an increase of 33.6 percent (380,000 units). The development was also positive for UHD TVs, with sales increasing by 5.2 percent in 2024 (3.6 million units). Additionally, more and more flat screens are equipped with integrated surround sound, with two million units sold in 2024 (+10.3 percent).
Shortly before World Radio Day on February 13, there is also positive news regarding digital radio. More than seven out of ten radio receivers in Germany in 2024 enable digital radio reception. This includes internet radio, DAB+, and hybrid receivers. Over the past four years, the share of digital radio receivers has increased by 14 percentage points to 72 percent.
The trend is also positive for DAB+ radios. Over half of the “table top” radios sold in 2024 feature this standard (56 percent). The DAB+ share has significantly increased in recent years: In 2020, only just over a third of the radios sold were DAB+ receivers (41 percent).
The overall market (video and audio) considered in the CE Industry Compass was slightly declining in 2024. Revenue amounted to 6.2 billion euros, about 1.5 percent less than in 2023. Revenue in the audio market decreased by 5 percent compared to the previous year, while revenue in the video market grew slightly by 1.7 percent.
